Lodging at a bed and breakfast in Divide, Colorado that is a member inn of the BBIC insures inspected and approved accommodations. Divide is a growing community at the crest of Ute Pass, 25 miles west of Colorado Springs. The Ute Pass divides the water shed of the Arkansas and South Platte Rivers. The railroad used to divide here with trains going either south to Cripple Creek or west to Florissant and points beyond. (Hence the name Divide) The Divide traffic signal is at the highways of US 24 and Colorado State 67. The next traffic signal to the west is in Buena Vista, about 70 miles away. The absence of signals is indicative of the environment. Guests come to Divide, only 45 minutes from Colorado Springs, for the mountain serenity and western beauty, the world-class views of the Continental Divide mountains, and Pikes Peak. The Royal Gorge, Cripple Creek, and Breckenridge are easy day trips. The first post office was established in 1886. The Colorado Midland Railroad reached Divide in 1887. The depot building is still here. A fire destroyed much of the town in 1898. The original schoolhouse was built at the traffic light intersection in the early 1900s. It’s now a restaurant. The first church was built in 1906. The original building is now is a wing of the enlarged and remodeled church. The town hosts a collection of businesses, a post office, the Teller County Jail and Sheriff headquarters, a volunteer fire department, an elementary school, the Hayden Divide Community Park, and your BBIC “inspected and approved” bed and breakfast, Silverwood Inn. In January of 2001, four of the notorious Texas Seven were held in the Teller County Jail for several weeks. Quality and comfort are assured when you stay at a member inn of the Bed and Breakfast Innkeepers of Colorado.
