The historic gold-mining town of Breckenridge features one of the largest historic districts in Colorado. This charming Victorian town hosts a wide range of galleries and museums. Walking tours and carriage rides point out many of the original buildings from the era. The building that housed "Ye Editor", the town's first newspaper founded 120 years ago, still stands.Other historical sites include the "Choy Laundryman's Chinese Laundry", built in 1860, and the "Gold Pan Saloon", built in 1870, one of the oldest bars west of the Mississippi. The Hunt Placer Inn is located on the actual mining claim of Hunt Placer - placer mining involved the use of water under high pressure to loosen gravel from the hillsides, which was then run through sluice boxes to filter out the gold. Next door, you will find Colorado's only placer mining park, the Summit Historical Society's restored Lomax Placer Gulch, which includes an assay office and a miner's cabin. Dates: 04/07/02-10/31/02 Midweek (Sun.-Thurs.) n/a 07/04/02 Cost: Standard - $122/night, mini-suite - $158/night Hunt Placer Inn (Trip & Kelly Butler) Address: PO Box 4898, 275 Ski Hill Road, Breckenridge, CO 80424
