BROSS HOTEL CENTENNIAL BIRTHDAY PARTY -- The Bross Hotel, Paonia’s Brown Palace, is celebrating its Centennial Year by hosting an afternoon birthday party.

Opened in May 1906, the Bross Hotel was proclaimed Delta County’s only first class hotel. It had the best of amenities for a frontier hotel - electricity, indoor plumbing with hot and cold water in all the rooms, a coal-fired furnace, elegant bay windows, and even an ornamental glass door. For many years it was THE place for special events, meetings of civic organizations, and for fruit brokers and coal barons to stay as they made their deals with the local mines and orchards. After major renovations in the mid-1990s, the hotel is restored to its status as Delta Countys only first class hotel.

A Centennial Birthday Party, to which everyone is invited, will be held 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. May 6th. Linda Lentz, current owner of the Bross Hotel, looks forward to welcoming guests to an afternoon of music and refreshments. You will have an opportunity to mingle with former owners (W.T. and Laurah Bross, Otto Bross, Lura Atkins, George and Grace Edwards, Julie Andrew), learn about the hotel’s history, and take tours of the building. FLY FISHING CLINIC -- Spring is the time to enjoy the Arkansas River and the Inn has private access to a 1/8 mile of the river. Learn how to fly fish or just work on perfecting your past skills. Choose between a one or two day school offered by Ark Anglers in partnership with the River Run Inn . The ArkAnglers Fly-fishing Schools have evolved from the Columbine School of Fly-fishing established in the mid-1960's by Paul Fling and Don Puterbaugh, Colorado's first and longest-running instructional program. These schools are a great value for those who want to make their first steps into the river as productive and educational as possible.

All equipment, flies, terminal tackle, waders, lunch and guiding are included.

One Day School - Spend the morning learning the basics of fly-fishing, including casting, tying knots, identifying insects, selecting fly patterns, equipment set-up and more. After lunch, hit the river in a 2:1 guest to guide tutorial setting where we put into action the skills learned in the morning. 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Course Fee: $125.00 per person

Two Day School - For an expanded learning experience, add a second day to any of our scheduled school dates. Take the regular one-day class. On the second day, we start with a review casting clinic and then spend the morning on either a float or a wade trip, enjoying the other option in the afternoon. This course offers a great introduction to fly-fishing as well as the opportunity to demo various fly rod models and equipment. 8:00 am - 5:00 pm both days. Course Fee: $325.00 per person

HOT AIR BALLOONS IN THE SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS -- Enjoy three wonderful days of hot air balloon activities in the spectacular San Juan Mountains. Guests of the Spangler House B&B may attend all of the Ridgway Hot Air Balloon Festivals events while staying just ten miles away in a historic B&B in beautiful Ouray, Colorado. Our early rising guests, wishing to see the 7:00 AM balloon launch, will not go hungry. A special take-away breakfast will be prepared each morning during the festival. Late sleepers will be able to enjoy the Spangler Houses full and hearty breakfast in our spacious dining room. After a long day of activities our guests are welcome to soak in the large outdoor hot tub at the Spangler House B&B or visit Ouray’s natural hot springs pool for half price.
