BBIC Presents

June Jumbled Pillows

HISTORIC HOMES TOUR -- The Bross Hotel and the Paonia Bed and Breakfast Association invites you to get away for a weekend and learn about the the architectural treasure trove that is Paonia. Located on the western slope of the Rockies, Paonia is a small town in the beautiful, lush North Fork Valley. Founded by coal miners and fruit growers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it has not gotten caught up in Colorado’s spiraling growth so maintains its historical ambiance -- a quiet, primarily residential, town. The architecture and history of many homes will be highlighted by architect Robert McHugh as he leads a walking tour of the oldest residential areas. Guests will have an opportunity to tour a couple homes, too. Plan to arrive early Friday evening. Robert McHugh will introduce everyone to tour plans over dessert and coffee. Then, after a good night’s sleep and a gourmet breakfast in one of three bed and breakfasts, we’ll join Bob for a leisurely tour ending with lunch. The afternoon is free for you to explore your interests - antiques, wines, fruit (cherries may be coming into season), cycling, the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, etc. The group will come back together for dinner in one of Paonia’s outstanding restaurants. To make a reservation, contact Linda Lentz at the Bross Hotel - 970-527-6776 or brosshotel@paonia.com. Dates: June 17-19, 2005. Cost: The full weekend for two persons sharing a room is $375, $275 for single occupancy. The cost includes two nights at a bed and breakfast, homes tour, lunch, dinner, and Friday night dessert. PAONIA GARDEN TOUR -- Paonia, the town named for the peony flower, is the site of a garden tour on June 4th. Yes, it’s when peonies are in bloom as well as iris and a myriad of other late spring/early summer flowers. Visitors will have an opportunity to see lovely perennial gardens and xeriscaping done by some of the North Fork Valley’s master gardeners. To enhance your weekend, the Paonia Bed and Breakfast Association is offering a weekend getaway package that will introduce you to the valley - the blossoms, the organic gardens and orchards, the wineries, and the art. Check in at your B&B Friday evening, meet other guests over coffee and dessert as plans for the garden tour are outlined. Then get a good nights sleep and enjoy a gourmet breakfast before heading out to view eight exciting gardens. After the tour you’ll have free time to cycle, hike, visit art studios, wineries, and antique stores or just kick back and soak in a hot tub. A sumptuous dinner will be prepared by one of Paonia’s renowned chefs. To make a reservation, contact Linda Lentz at the Bross Hotel - 970-527-6776 or brosshotel@paonia.com. Dates: June 3-5.
