Plein Aire artist, Paula Gardner, will give a five-day workshop at the Bross Hotel. It will include drawing and color theory lessons, painting techniques, and demonstrations. Personal attention in both the studio and Plein Aire settings will be offered. Paula promises that you'll learn a lot in a supportive, fun atmosphere. At week's end, you'll have a finished painting, which may be suitable for framing.

Mountain Harvest Festival September 23-26, 2010
Come to Paonia to celebrate the harvest; it’s a harvest of the arts and the land. Enjoy prose and poetry reading Thursday evening; evaluate chili and fashions Friday evening. On Saturday,while your children engage in a variety of kid’s actiivities, you can stomp grapes, sample local wines and beers, and stroll through the Harvest Bazaar. All this occurs under an umbrella of music throughout the weekend. The main music attraction is the 3-venue concert on Saturday evening when 20 bands will treat you to their varied sounds. Plum Bread/Cake
Ingredients: 1 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup vegetable oil
1 egg
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 cups chopped plums
1 cup chopped pecans
Topping:
2 tablespoons of sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons chopped pecans
Directions
1. Mix sugars, oil, and egg.
2. Combine dry ingredients. Add alternately to sugar mixture with buttermilk.
3. Stir in plums and pecans.
4. Pour batter into two 8x4x2 inch loaf pans.
5. Combine topping ingredients. Sprinkle over batter.
6. Bake at 350 degrees F until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean - about 60 minutes. Cool for 10 minutes before turning out of pans.
Fritata Brunch Bread
Ingredients: 2 (8 ounce) cans refrigerated crescent rolls
4 ounces thinly sliced deli ham, julienned
4 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup milk
8 eggs
1/4 teaspoon salt
Dash pepper
1/4 cup chopped sweet red pepper
2 tablespoons chopped green onion
1 teaspoon butter
1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Directions:
1. Unroll each tube of crescent dough (do not separate rectangles). Place side by side on a greased baking sheet with long sides touching; seal seams and perforations. Arrange ham lengthwise down center third of rectangle.
2. In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese and milk. Separate one egg; set egg white aside. Add the egg yolk, remaining eggs, salt and pepper to cream cheese mixture; mix well. Add red pepper and onions.
3. In a large skillet, melt butter; add egg mixture. Cook and stir over medium heat just until set. Remove from the heat. Spoon scrambled eggs over ham. Sprinkle with cheese.
4. On each long side of dough, cut 1-in.-wide strips to the center to within 1/2 in. of filling. Starting at one end, fold alternating strips at an angle across the filling. Pinch ends to seal and tuck under. Beat reserved egg white; brush over dough. Bake at 375 degrees F for 25-28 minutes or until golden brown
