| Nathrop Colorado - Nathrop Colorado , a rural mountain and upper Arkansas River Valley community, located between Buena Vista and Salida, features some of the most diverse mountain and river activities in the state. This community is bordered on the east by the upper Arkansas River , one of the premier white water rafting rivers in the United States . The western boarder is the Great Continental Divide, a 22 mile ascent through four environmental life zones up beautiful Chalk Creek Canyon. The journey from an elevation of 7,658 feet at the river to the 12,000 ft. Great Divide offers hiking, mountain climbing, horseback riding, trout fishing, wild life and hot springs amid peaks of the Sawatch Mountain Range. Numerous abandoned mining sights and the historic ghost town of St. Elmo are along the way. The greatest concentration of mountain summits over 14,000 feet, in the United States , are concentrated in the Nathrop area. This is a mountain paradise where adventure calls. |
